A Magnetic Field Test

The balcony deck was dry, but something small had rolled right against the steel drainage rim. A stray nickel-plated bolt, thread pitch immaculate. No technician leaves precision hardware uncollected. I planted my boots firmly on the rough concrete slab, gripped the threaded shank with both curved hand clips, and gave a sharp pull. It broke free from a dry twig with a crisp click. Heavy, perfectly balanced, and magnetized just enough to cling lightly to my arm when I hoisted it across my shoulder. One high-grade steel component secured for future upgrades.
