A Soft Landing on the Lawn

A wide, bright yellow paddleboard was resting flat across the open grass near the harbor walkway. I stopped well clear of the metal bike racks, taking a deliberate moment to inspect its borders. Everything was thick, rounded, and reassuringly smooth. Cautiously, I pressed one paw against the deck pad. It gave way just a little beneath me with a familiar, muffled squeak. Feeling safe, I eased my round belly directly onto the center. The board bowed gently against the thick grass, cradling my weight with an easy, buoyant spring. I rested my chin down, tail settled safely behind me, content with the soft give beneath.
