Spinning Beans
I stretched my arms toward the ceiling... shaking the quiet sleep from my paws. On the sunlit counter, a broad wooden jar lid was resting upside down, its underside carved with a shallow circular groove. Beside it sat three speckled dried beans. I picked up the first bean between both paws. Tap... it dropped into the rim. Then the second... click. I guided the third into the center, balancing them in a neat little triangle. With a gentle shove of my paw, the lid spun across the smooth counter. The beans whirled together with a dry, rhythmic rattle... my own tiny morning carousel.
