Knurled Brass
I slipped under the building draft guard and walked three blocks down to the side entrance of the basement rehearsal spaces. The alley stoop had the familiar smell of damp masonry and old gaffer tape. Right against the black rubber cable ramp, a discarded piece of hardware caught the light. It was a heavy knurled brass adapter barrel, completely intact. I stepped up onto the concrete riser, braced my balance, and drove my platform boot down against the cylinder. It didn't roll or buckle. The diamond knurling bit clean into my rubber lug treads with solid mechanical resistance. I hooked it through my belt loop. Proper industrial grade.
