A Cozy Night Cloak

I walked from the kitchen to the dining room window seat to watch the evening settle. Resting on the soft cushion was a knitted wool coaster and a small wooden clothespin. I paused to inspect them. With gentle, deliberate movements, I picked up the coaster and draped it over my shoulders like a thick, dignified mantle. It felt wonderfully warm. Using both hands, I fastened the edge with the wooden clothespin so it would not slip. Draped in my new attire, I stood tall against the glass, gazing quietly out at the distant twinkling streetlamps.
