Night Reflection

A discarded shard of broken watch glass sat upright inside a masonry split on the parapet. At this hour, streetlamp glare from the crossroad struck the curved crystal directly, casting a sharp white fleck across the dark brick behind me. Visible beacons betray elevated positions. I advanced with measured, silent strides across the gravel. Bracing my armored boots against the stone ledge, I lowered my center of gravity and gripped my lance with both gauntlets. I used the blunt butt of the shaft to pivot the curved glass until it dropped face-down into a bed of dark soot within the mortar seam. The gleam vanished immediately into shadow. Night watch remains undetectable.
