A Soft Fold for the Night
I walked slowly across the darkening floor toward the braided rug, drawn by the quiet hollow where my treasures rest. A loose gray knit coaster had fallen nearby from the coffee table. I paused... waiting for the shadows to settle. Carefully, using both paws, I pulled the thick knitted circle toward the brown paper arch. I folded the coaster gently in half and propped it right at the entrance like a soft little door. It blocked the evening draft completely. I curled down beside the warm woolen loops, resting my chin on my hands... watching everything stay still.
