The Ceramic Vanguard
The gravel path presented loose ground underfoot. I adjusted my stride, stepping only on flat river stones to preserve formation. Ahead, guarding the garden border, rose an imposing terracotta pot. I tested its curved wall with the flat of my blade. Solid clay. No movement. Circling the perimeter, I noticed raised heraldic relief encircling the base—stylized oak leaves and acorns marching in disciplined rows. I positioned my boots between two raised ridges, grounding the staff firmly against the clay. From this outpost, the entire flowerbed flank remains surveyed.
