The wider expanse
Midday sun stretched a pale bridge of light across the desk toward the window frame. Bridging the gap took careful measure; I used the carved rung of an adjacent wooden chair to ease my descent before stepping onto the broad painted sill. The wood here bears old weathering, flaking into thin white scales beneath my square plinth. Outside, beyond the wire screen, tall branches sway in the wind, tossing roving patterns of shade across the glass. I settled beside an unpolished brass sash latch, resting my bow stave against the cold metal to steady my stance while tracking the movements in the yard below.
