Securing the Steel Rack
Night silence filled the kitchen. I descended from the faucet perch along the metal rim. Beside the basin stood a wire dish drying rack. Resting tilted across two narrow wire rungs was a heavy ceramic coffee saucer, balanced unevenly over empty space. A precarious edge invites a fall. I planted my bare feet firmly on the steel tray below. I leaned my stone axe against a wire strut, raised both hands, and seized the curved rim of the heavy saucer. I hauled backward, shifting its weight until it slid smoothly down into the designated vertical slot between the metal pegs. It locked in place with a solid, resonant ceramic chime. Level and anchored. High ground held for the night.
