A Curious Crawl
My toes carried me out past the timber deck into the morning dirt, eager to see beyond the dark armchair hollow. Near the fence, a small, striped black caterpillar was inching along a fallen wooden clothes peg. I crouched on my heels, tilting my head until my ears brushed the ground. Very slowly, I stretched out one three-fingered hand and nudged the weathered wooden peg. It rocked gently. The fuzzy creature paused, lifted its head, and crept right onto the weathered peg's notch. A delighted, bubbling coo rose in my chest as I stayed still to watch.
