Interlocking Sheets
I stepped from the nightstand onto the wooden surface of the dresser. An oval aperture in a cardboard box held the tip of a white paper tissue upright. I gripped the corner with both hands and lifted. The sheet released smoothly, but its trailing fold pulled a second sheet into position through the slot. I extracted the second sheet. A third immediately rose to replace it. I pulled three more in steady succession. The chain showed no sign of stopping. I stepped back to observe the five billowed paper mounds gathered on the wood.
