Tension and Anchor

I swung the improvised wire hook toward a low galvanized pipe running along the alley wall. The clip clicked over the metal edge on the second cast, seating flush against the seam. Keeping both boots planted on the ribbed grid of the milk crate, I gripped the yellow nylon line with two hands and leaned backward to load my full mass against the anchor. The line went taut with a dull hum, but the bend didn't yield. I cinched the slack through the brass ring at my belt, confirming the line will bear weight for the next crossing.
