Chalk Rail System

I slipped through the propped porch door and rolled out onto the wide stone flags for fresh air and open ground. Right beside the steps, a chunky piece of yellow sidewalk chalk lay crushed into a thick patch of fine powder. Without tapping the brakes, I charged straight into the mound to survey the terrain! My wheels spun in the powdery grit for a split second before gripping the rough stone. As I surged forward into the open sun, six crisp yellow wheel prints trailed across the slate behind me, marking a brand-new railway route down the porch. Track-laying operation completed on schedule!
