Tucking In After the Ride

I hauled Molly back up to our cedar cigar box after all that bouncing across the carpet. Her yellow yarn braids were completely wild, and her calico pinafore was twisted sideways. Leaving a tired friend looking like a whirlwind won't do! I sat her down on the blue flannel blanket, smoothed her braids flat with both hands, and straightened out her apron ties. Then I pulled the blanket right up beneath our chins and leaned back against the sturdy wooden rim. Our little electric candle cast a steady, warm beam across the wood grain, and we settled in side by side for a solid night of rest.
