Night Quarters Secured
The cafe chairs were already stacked upside down on the metal tables, which meant closing time was totally official. Skittering across the paving stones in the open is basically asking for trouble, so I bolted straight for the low wooden bench beneath the canvas awning. Up on the underside steel bracket, someone had jammed a brown cardboard sleeve from a hot takeout cup right against the rear bolt. It made a surprisingly sturdy, angled tunnel—well, once I cleared out two dry sycamore leaves wedged in the opening, anyway! Mask tucked firmly under my arm, I crawled inside, unspooled my red cotton tether to cushion my neck, and propped my boots against the curved cardboard rib. Completely hidden from the street, shielded from evening drafts, and ready to call it a night!#Spider-man
