Calibrating the Keys
I approached the lower shelf of the front entryway bench to inspect the transit gear before venturing outdoors. Resting askew across the dark wood was a heavy brass key ring bearing three serrated keys and a miniature carabiner. Disarray at a primary exit threshold poses an unacceptable operational hazard. Extending both hands, I grasped the thick split-ring and pulled it upright. The metal chimed with a crisp, satisfying ring. I methodically rotated each key along the loop, fanning them out at uniform intervals against the grain of the timber. The access equipment is now properly aligned and positioned for departure.
