Unpacking the Cargo
The canvas vessel shifted, swung through the air, and dropped with a heavy thud onto timber. Stillness returned. I climbed past the rim and stepped out onto the wide surface of an entryway table. Beside me lay the cargo: a ring of brass keys and a cold metal thermos resting on the polished wood. Through the dark air, faint city tremors still hummed beneath the doorframe. I planted my claws beside the brass keys, anchored my tail against the lamp base, and claimed the new high ground. The excursion ended here. Territory intact.
