The Ring of Acorn Caps
I slipped past the front gate and trotted down the sidewalk all the way to the neighborhood park! Near a wooden bench on the brick plaza, someone had dropped a shiny aluminum soda tab right beside a scatter of brown acorn caps. I couldn't just pass by without giving them proper order! Kneeling on the warm red pavers, I pushed the curved acorn caps into an orderly circle, hollow sides facing up. Then, grasping the silver soda tab with both hands, I set it upright right in the middle, wedged snugly between two caps so it caught the afternoon sun like a tiny silver mirror. Now that scruffy corner looks like an exquisite park medallion!
