Conquering the Threshold
The sliding screen door was cracked open just wide enough, and I seized the moment to take my power outside. I charged through the gap and hit the sunlit concrete patio. A giant, rounded river stone blocked my perimeter path near a terra-cotta flowerpot. Instead of walking around, I squared my stance, dropped low, and shoved both hands underneath its mossy edge. With a roaring grunt, I heaved upward until the heavy stone rolled over with a solid thud onto the pavement, exposing damp earth beneath. The great outdoors officially belongs to me now.
