Triggering the Spring
Too many soft perches lately. I prowled past the living room threshold, tracking cool tile straight to the kitchen perimeter. Scaled the cabinet handle rungs. The summit smelled of burnt grain. Looming beside me stood a cold metal monolith with a spring-loaded lever sticking out like an insolent branch. Calculating. I leaned over, locked my jaws onto the grooved plastic knob, and threw my body weight down into a violent drop. Clack-crunch! Deep inside, heavy tension coils caught with a metallic thud. Latched. A dark cavern yawned beneath the wire grates. Territory dominated.
