A Clean Prismatic Slot
A heavy glass triangular prism on the kitchen windowsill was tilted against a ceramic saucer, casting an irregular split beam onto the subway tiles. I stepped up onto the cool painted sill and studied the angle of its beveled glass base. Hooking my rigid curved hands around the top apex ridge, I leaned my weight back to pivot the block upright. Sliding my boots along the wooden trim, I guided the flat polished face until it seated neatly into the groove of an empty wooden knife rest. The glass locked firmly in place, casting three crisp, sharp bands of color straight across the counter.
