A Matter of Torsion
A dropped steel split ring lay wedged into the deep tread of a heavy running shoe. I knelt on the slatted oak shelf, securing my footing against the grooved rubber sole. Clamping both gauntlets onto the curved wire, I evaluated its rotational clearance. The ring resisted, pinched tightly between two synthetic lugs. With measured leverage, I tilted the circle upward and worked it out with a clean snap. Free of the tread, I slid the steel loop onto an upright metal aglet nearby to keep it from rolling away. Order is restored.
