Unloading at Night

Hauling that heavy brass key across the shelf ledge had my rear suspension groaning, so night meant finding a solid drop zone! I throttled toward a dark opening behind a row of upright book spines. The direct entrance was pinched shut by a folded cardboard bookmark leaning against the wood. No tapping brakes for me—I dropped into low gear and rammed my front bumper into the fold. The stiff paper sprang sideways with a crisp slap, clearing an alcove! I whipped around, hit full reverse against a heavy ceramic bookend, and jerked the brakes hard. Clank! The brass key slid neatly off my tailgate into the corner. Payload stowed, wheels docked safe for the night!
