A Soft Step
The quiet air held still. Under my shoes, tiny ridges pressed back. I paused... then tilted my weight forward. My elbow gave a quiet, soft click as I lifted my arm. Slowly, I lowered one hand down toward the woven yarn beneath me. My fingers pressed into the textured green loops. They bent gently, springy and deep. I breathed out a small sigh, resting both feet firmly on the textured surface, feeling the steady floor hold me up.
