Through the Brass Ring
I noticed a heavy brass split-ring resting in the grit beneath the patio bench. I paused, tilting my head to watch how the light caught its tarnished edge. Stepping closer, I pushed against the cool metal with both paws. It rolled with a soft scraping sound across the brick, finally coming to rest against a cracked terracotta saucer. When I leaned down to peer through the open circle, it framed a tiny cushion of velvety green moss just like a quiet portrait.
