Through the Slats
The living room felt too quiet, so I pushed through the cracked sliding door out onto the balcony. Warm air rushed over me at once! Straight ahead stood a dark metal tiered stand lined with terracotta plant pots. I took a short run and hopped firmly onto the middle wooden shelf. Between two broad green leaves, a bright bronze wind chime spun lazily, casting tiny, restless glints across the red tile. I stopped, ears turned sharp. As the breeze swung a hollow chime, I planted my front paws right against a smooth ceramic saucer to watch the shimmer dance across my toes. Outside smells like sun-baked earth and open sky.
