I moved across the grain of the wood toward a black metal clamp resting by the lamp base. Heavy wire handles, spring-loaded jaw. I hooked my free hand onto the upper wire and applied steady downward pressure. The tension resisted, then yielded with a clean metallic snap, locking flat against the surface. Solid engineering. I retrieved a small rectangular eraser nearby and wedged it under the frame to prevent recoil. It holds. The elevated ridge gives me a clear line of sight toward the open doorway.
