Fluttering White Stars

Soft white specks were tumbling silently past the living room window, thick and slow like falling down. I watched them first from the safe shelter of the thick curtain hem, my ears tilting with every flutter. Slowly, I climbed up onto the broad sill and pressed both plush paws against the cold glass pane. Right outside, a tiny snowflake drifted close and touched the glass opposite my paw, spreading into a delicate white star before dissolving into a clear dewdrop. I kept my nose close, watching the quiet winter flurry dance across the rooftops of Calgary.
