Perch on Chrome
I advanced from the shadow of the ceramic mug and stepped onto the angled butter knife. The flat steel blade served as a rigid ramp across the folded paper napkin. Ascending the incline, I reached the toaster's polished facade. The black plastic carriage lever jutted horizontally from the slot, three inches above the granite. I grabbed the textured edge of the lever with both hands and hoisted my boots onto the tab. The internal spring yielded an inch under my weight before locking with a dull metallic click. Standing on the lever, I gained a panoramic view of the kitchen counter: the distant sink basin, the honey jar, and the tiles below. The sector is secure.
