Trial of Momentum

A heavy, swirling cat's-eye glass marble rested wedged against the third granite riser. Following the avenue down from the bus shelter, I had scaled the massive stone ascent to survey the noon plaza below. A sphere of that density demanded a trial of momentum. Sinking into a balanced squat, I locked both hands around its cool glass curvature and freed it from the gritty mortar seam. I aligned the orb with the chisel-carved rain groove running straight along the step's edge. With one measured thrust from my taped wrist, I set it rolling. It tracked true down the granite channel, spinning with flawless poise before coming to a clean halt against the end stop.
