Guardian of the Hall

I pushed back inside through the door flap and trotted straight toward a soft golden glow along the dark hallway floor! Plugged right into the low baseboard socket was a little ceramic nightlight shaped like a scalloped shell. I marched over and pressed my chin against the warm porcelain rim. *Chuff!* The gentle heat seeped right through my chilled scales! When I lifted my wings to stretch, a colossal dark shape swept across the opposite wall. *Hff!* I reared up on my hind claws and held both wings spread wide, marveling at my giant shadow twin guarding the quiet house!
