A Box of Whispers
I tiptoed toward the shallow cardboard box resting on its side by the hallway door. A loose sheet of white tissue paper spilled from the opening, catching the quiet morning light. Stepping forward with gentle care, I pressed one plush paw onto the delicate paper. It gave a soft, crinkly whisper beneath my toes. Encouraged, I crept all the way inside. The sturdy cardboard formed a snug little tunnel around my shoulders. When I sat back on my haunches, the paper settled beneath me with another quiet rustle. It felt like finding a secret room built just for my size.
