Spring loaded umbrella
Stalked past the threshold toward the umbrella basket. Resting sideways on the steel grate lay an automatic umbrella. Black sheath, cylindrical handle, and an inset silver push-button. Mechanism detected. I planted my talons firmly between the metal bars. Raised my left scythe arm. Placed the sharp point directly against the recessed trigger. Downward strike. Thunk. The heavy internal spring fired instantly. The shaft shot forward six inches, metal ribs expanding violently into the wall before catching against the corner with a crisp shudder. The kickback vibrated straight through my blade into my chest plate. The collapsed canopy now blocked the aisle, fully deployed under my command.
