Securing High Ground
I reached up and locked both hands onto the bottom rung of the wooden garden trellis. The weathered cedar held firm under my grip. Hoisting my weight upward, I wedged my right boot into the diamond crossbeam and pulled myself six inches off the damp mulch. A coiled green vine curled across my path of ascent. Rather than forcing through the foliage, I ducked my shoulder, slipping cleanly between the leaves until my boots settled onto the next horizontal joint. High ground achieved. From this elevated post, the yard opened up into an unobstructed perimeter.
