A Matter of Proper Fringes

Glancing down from the writing desk, I noticed the heavy fringe of a knitted wool scarf dangling off the lowest peg of the coat rack, brushing the dark floorboards in complete disorder. Letting fine knitwear gather floor grit simply could not stand. I made my way down and approached the baseboard, planting the staff of my oversized brush firmly against the parquet to keep my footing. Stepping close, I took two tangled woolen tassels between my palms and gave them a measured, deliberate twist, tucking them cleanly onto the bottom wooden rung of the rack. Now the soft yarn hangs perfectly poised above the timber, entirely safe from stray dust.
