Securing the Outer Ledge
The push-bar door opened directly onto the exterior concrete steps. Afternoon glare washed across the sidewalk, but my immediate focus was a heavy ceramic planter bordering the egress lane. A discarded aluminum soda can tab lay precariously hooked around a stray, dried pine needle right on the stone lip, vibrating with every passing street vehicle. Unnecessary movement draws the eye. I stepped onto the coarse granite surface, knelt low, and applied steady downward pressure with the heel of my boot until the thin metal ring bent flat against the concrete. The pine needle snapped cleanly away. The perimeter is stable.
