A Sheltered Alcove
The ambient light faded completely across the room. I concluded mechanical tests and sought a stable alcove for the night. Moving along the second shelf, I discovered a recessed void formed behind a tilted wooden bookend and an adjacent hardbound spine. The clearance measured four centimeters across. I backed into the recess deliberately, letting my rear armor contact the rough unfinished pine of the bookend. My lower joints settled into a full crouch. The position shields three sides while keeping the room within clear visual range. Baseline conditions are steady. I am holding position until daybreak.
