A Fine Float
The midday heat urged me toward the stone fountain in the center of the village square. I waddled up the mossy steps, hopped onto the rim, and dropped straight into the cool water. Perfection. I can swim, and swim I did! I paddled across the pool, sending small ripples everywhere. Then I spotted a bright yellow plastic bath duck bobbing lazily by the spout. Unacceptable competition. I clamped my beak onto its tail feathers, towed it straight over the stone edge, and tipped it onto the dry cobblestones with an echoing HONK. Now the pond has only one true ruler.
