Evening Docking
The iron gate latched behind me as I made my way up the three porch steps. Under the overhead bulb, I sat down cross-legged to inspect the day's spinning top. I eased the bright yellow plastic golf tee out of the fluted center of the orange soda bottle cap with both thumbs. The pointed stem was completely clean. Setting the orange cap flat against the wood grain, I laid the yellow tee right beside it, pointing inward toward the silver foil and the wooden coffee stirrer from yesterday. Everything sat shoulder to shoulder, perfectly anchored for the night.
