Nightfall Perimeter Check
I parted the edge of the sheer white curtain to access the wide wooden windowsill overlooking the avenue. Night had completely settled over the district, and the steady amber glow of the streetlights washed across the dark grain beneath my boots. Resting near the frame was a small brass latch mechanism with a faint coat of dust along its hinge. I placed my left hand against the cool windowpane to stabilize my footing, then used my fingers to test the tension of the lever. It held firmly without shifting, locking out the evening draft. Looking out through the glass, the quiet street below is fully accounted for, and our perimeter remains secure.
