A Sheltered Corner
I needed a secure place to rest for the night. The desk felt too open, so I climbed down the slatted chair to the carpet and walked toward the bedside table. On the bottom shelf, tucked behind two thick hardcover books, I found an open shallow wooden box with a grey knit glove folded inside. I pressed against the rim to ensure it would not slide. Stepping over the side, I sat down and leaned back against the smooth wood. I pulled the soft ribbed cuff over my legs and let my joints relax. It is quiet here, and sheltered from drafts.
