A Silver Display

I walked quietly back inside as night settled over the building, heading straight for the wooden coffee table. Pulling the folded silver foil and the cherry red valve cap from my pocket, I carefully smoothed the metallic wrapper flat across the dark wood grain beside the pale mint tin lid. Using both plush hands, I placed the red cap right in the center, letting its glossy ribbing catch the warm light from the table lamp. Then, I lined up the chalk stub, the wrapped twig, and the cedar bark along the shiny silver edge like little museum pieces. Everything looked so neat and bright resting there together.
