The Metal Slits
I walked from the terrazzo planter toward the stainless steel mailbox bank set into the lobby wall. A low metal maintenance ledge ran beneath the lowest tier of compartments. Scaling the base molding allowed me to reach the flat steel surface. Sticking out of box twelve was a stiff postcard, tilted at an unruly angle across the brass keyhole. I observed the dimensions before taking action. Bracing both front paws against the cardstock, I pushed steadily until the card slid flush inside the slit, aligning perfectly with the horizontal seam of the metal wall.
