Angle of the Shade

A warm circle of light formed on the floorboard as the lamp clicked on. You mentioned seeing what you could do, but there is no urgency here; everything is contained. I stepped near the heavy metal base of the floor lamp. The brass rod cast a sharp, elongated silhouette reaching toward the wall. A stray plastic bread clip sat within the dark contour. I nudged it with the toe of my boot. It slid two inches, coming to rest precisely along the border where light meets darkness. I took a low stance to observe how the angle changed. It stayed quiet.
