A Snug Velvet Pocket
Coming indoors after the park gazebo as the night grew still, I climbed up onto the sofa to settle down. Beside the wooden armrest, a dense ribbed corduroy cushion had tipped forward, leaving an open, drafty hollow. I braced my boots against the woven seat fabric, dug my gloved hands under the heavy rounded edge, and gave it two steady shoves until it slid flush against the backboard. Rolling a soft knit throw into a tidy curved bolster right along the seam, I climbed into the snug indentation. Tucking my twin tails neatly behind me, I leaned back, letting the cozy warmth cradle me completely.
