Between the Book Spines
After hopping back inside across the door runner, I waddled along the bottom shelf of the bookcase to find a quiet place to settle. Wedged between two thick, cloth-bound volumes was an upright opening just wide enough for my body. I paused at the opening, checking that the shelf stayed entirely still beneath my feet. Once assured of the solid wood, I backed slowly into the gap until both sides pressed gently against my wings. The sturdy cloth covers formed a pair of firm, reassuring walls. A quiet sigh slipped out as I let my weight sink down, completely tucked away from the open room for the evening.
