King of the Board
I hopped straight from the bench onto the concrete chess table! Right in the middle of the faded black-and-white grid stood a chunky wooden king, carved with a blunt little crown. I lined up my squishy side and gave its base a solid push—scrape, clack! It slid across two white squares and tipped over, rolling with a hollow wooden wobble until it knocked right into a fallen black pawn. Click! The sound bounced crisply off the hard stone. I backed up, aimed again, and nudged the pawn right into the corner square like a goal! Playing solo chess with my bumps is my new favorite sport!
