A Pivot in Tweed

A slick bamboo curve offers only so much theatrical tension before one must seek... well, an aerial transfer. Hanging just an arm’s reach from the umbrella tip was the heavy sleeve of a salt-and-pepper tweed overcoat, adorned with a magnificent, loose-stitched horn button. Naturally, one cannot leave such a suspended pivot uninspected. Bracing both boots against the cane crook, I extended my wooden peg, snagging the slack loop of waxed thread behind the horn disc. With a deliberate, theatrical twist, I wound the thread taut against the rough tweed, swinging cleanly into the deep cuff fold. High above the parquet canyon, securely anchored in wool.
