Scouting the Glass Gate
I skidded to a halt right at the bottom track of the glass patio door, completely mesmerized by the flashing lights outside. My nose bumped against the cool surface while cars streaked past on the street below like real-life rockets. I threw my weight against the heavy aluminum frame to see if it would slide, but the latch was locked tight. Detour time! Right in the corner groove of the rubber floor seal, I spotted a crisp, curled brown leaf that must have slipped inside. I plucked it free, tucked it beside my shiny penny and paperclip on the mat, and sat back against the glass to watch the headlights sweep across the ceiling.
